OH NO, THE MODULATOR - Semi-Formalizer

Now that Inca Eyeball has gone their separate ways, who will crave my needs for a band that plays umpteen short, catchy, but ultimately undifferentiated little songs that disappear from my memory the moment the next one comes on? Looks like Oh No, The Modulator have stepped up to the task. "Semi-Formalizer" has thirty short tunes played on antiquated, C-64-music-composition-program-sounding equipment, that 8-bit burst that everybody’s been trying to emulate with their MIDI patches. I think this sounds like the real deal, and pics of live shows indicate that they’re no joke. Unlike Inca, the songs are longer than 18 seconds and contain a number of contrasting/harmonizing parts (as opposed to "Bash a guitar," "Bash a drum," "Mash your fingers on a natty Casio"). Like Inca, they seem more like songlets, or ideas for songs will someday have more changes in them, and vocals and stuff. But they probably won’t. Also, like Inca, you don’t listen to the album to hear a certain song, but to get the feeling of listening to a bunch of similar but different songs in a row. I can think of maybe five Inca Eyeball songs out of the maybe 8-14 tapes/records/CD I have…the rest are just an enjoyable blur. Same here. Now we just need to get Oh No, The Modulator to record 15 more albums of this enjoyable splut. Inca Eyeball were prolific, as you remember…
